Ok let's clear things up, I'm native spanish speaker, from Cuba to be specific, I understand your point perfectly, however those things you're complaining about Spanish are in fact the same things that we spanish speakers find very difficult and without sense in other languages such as English or German for example. Every single difference in terms of grammar, spelling and phonetics between one language and another, plays an important role on how hard a language is to learn. Now what's the bottom line, what defines the degree of difference: it's the *language family*, you'll find any *germanic language* (English, Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch) way easier than Spanish or any *romance language*, since the logic of languages differs greatly when they belong to differents families. This is it, that's what really happens. 😊

The word “usted” is for someone older who you admire and/or respect. Especially because you want them to know that you yourself are a respectful person that recognizes who you’re talking to, and wants to be welcome to their space, not invade it. In return they will have the same respect and admiration for you. Another way to use “usted” is to set distance to have a line that you don’t want crossed in a respectable manner. This would be more effective in a social situation or work environment. In most cases it has nothing to do with being above anyone. It’s more of a boundary thing. I hope I was able to find the correct way of explaining how important the use of this word is.
